The Play In organized by CSSA was a great success! On Sunday, September 3rd, a cold drizzly day, about
fifty young violinists and violists entertained a shivering audience with lively Suzuki tunes ranging from the Vivaldi
a minor concerto to "See the Pretty Flowers", a special learning piece for preschoolers. The audience was delighted.
A big thank you to Carol Dougall and her Festival on the Bow team who made sure everything was ready for us. She also
arranged for our students to perform on The Breakfast Show and on Stephen Avenue Mall to help promote the Festival on
the Bow during the week before the event.
CSSA members, Anne Lyon Morris, Wan Tsai Chen, Andrea Hudson, and Carmen Wise helped organize the Play In and/or led the
students through the different performances. We are especially grateful to Donna Delong who generously lent her piano
to the cause, and to Toto who accompanied us magnificently.
BEWARE THE VIOLA!
Violas were outnumbered at the Play In. Nevertheless they were a force to be reckoned with!
"One Student's Account of the Play In" by Erika Takahashi of the Andrea Hudson Violin Studio
Hi! My name is Erika Takahashi. I am going to tell you about some cool experiences I've had on the violin for a thing
called Festival on the Bow. To prepare for it I had to wake up at approximately 5:00 in the morning to be on TV on The
Breakfast Show at Eau Clair market. We were supposed to be outside to perform 2 songs, but it was raining so they were
nice to come inside just to record us then go back out quickly. The person that interviewed us was a lady named Angela
Cocout. She is funny and very friendly! Another thing I did to advertise was to play some songs downtown on the trolley
stage with other Suzuki students. Both of these experiences were fun and I really enjoyed them.
